In the freshmen text, each unit consists of eight word parts (prefixes, roots and suffixes) that you need to learn, as well as two words that go along with each of the word parts. As the units continue, you will notice how the word parts build upon one another, and you should have greater ease in identifying unfamiliar words.
At the end of the first six units, you will take a midterm exam that tests your knowledge of all nine units. Once this is completed, you will not need to know these units for the final exam at the end of the year.
